Service is one of those steps that looks like a formality until it goes wrong, at which point it can unravel an entire case. Courts take it seriously for a good reason: a person is entitled to know that proceedings have been brought against them, and the system will not let a matter run against someone who was never properly notified. Get service wrong and the consequences are real.

Documents served on the wrong person, at an out-of-date address, or without adequate proof can mean a hearing is adjourned, a default judgment is later set aside, or a deadline is missed entirely — sending you back to the start with costs mounting.
